  1. You guys are doing an increasingly good job of being evenhanded on American politics, congrats. Your points about the rise of cable news and the subsequent republican nationalization of local races via identity platforms are very interesting and something I had not heard before. Another point to consider is the leftward shift of educators and entertainers starting in the 60’s which lead the right to largely abandon education and television and begin focusing on political think tanks and radio. By choosing to compete in different arenas, it is only natural that the amount of common ground between the two parties would shrink. It is interesting to see how the parties have been realigning of late. The “tea party” movement of the last decade was an idealogical shedding of establishment moderates in the republican party which caused many former republicans to join the left and now the “cancel culture” is pushing establishment moderates in the democratic party out and causing many of them to join the republicans. It would be interesting to see in the next decade how both parties platforms change because of this realignment.
