If access to weapons were the main cause of violent crime, then big blue cities with the most restrictive gun laws would have the lowest violent crime rates and small rural towns with the most legal gun ownership per capita would have the highest. The problem is the disintegration of the social fabric. Old world countries with a strong national identity, shared culture, common religious practice, and homogenous population don't have to work as hard to keep social cohesion as the new world does. Where you do see tension is primarily where old minority groups want out of nation states that don't represent them, or unintegrated migrants want full citizenship. You don't have race riots, violent protests against the government, and crime waves when people have a strong sense of representation, community, and belonging.
