  1. Taiwan builds almost all of the world's western-designed advanced microchips. If China takes their chip foundries, they instantly get billions of dollars worth of military R&D that took years to develop. On top of suddenly advancing their military tech, they immediately deny the west the ability to replenish their stockpiles of smart weapons and high-tech replacement parts. Those chips won't just effect the military but every civilian use of advanced chips. You can say goodbye to new phones, cars, computers, appliances, etc for years. Every industrialized country not strongly tied to Washington would have to come under Chinese hegemony to avoid their industries being crippled.
