  1. The big takeaway from Ukraine is that nukes are a great deterrent, and executive agreements with the US are not legally binding. If the US Senate does not ratify a treaty, you are lucky if it lasts till the end of the current presidential administration. Let's not forget that both administrations friendly to Russia (Obama) as well as administrations hostile to Russia (Bush and Biden) allowed Russia to carve up Ukrainian territory in violation of the Budapest Memorandum (which the UK was also party to).
