  1. Keep in mind, Dante and ancient, medieval, and Renaissance Christianity's view of Empire is not that of modern, global government. It's the idea of semi-automous ethnic nations united under one monarch and over-arching government, not of complete dissolution of ethnic groups and nations, but a way in which distinct groups can maintain their distinctness and yet also be united together in one Christendom. Unity and multiplicity in harmony. That is the ancient Christian notion of *Empire*.
