@chris.bcfc.keeprighton.5685 I think that part of the narrative against the needs of the old working classes was that they were a luxury that could not be afforded...inconvenient at best, especially once all their jobs had been pole-axed...there was always somehow a sense they were scroungers. I can only think this came from Dickensian times when the common folk were seen as a commodity...and put in dangerous work and workhouses for a bot of gruel...and since then there has been an attitude of intolerance to them from the elite, despite many workers being very earnest in their work. I was in the Miner's Strike...and there was always the same feel then, and we had no right to be asking for 'right's of any kind...it was lump the govt and rich narrative and take our oppression on the chin...as you have no entitlements to anything really. These kind of people would charge you for the fresh air you breathe if they could. So labour were seen by the press and media as extravagant and negligent fiscally...as they actually saw the importance of social welfare and the NHS...and other vital infrastructure. The social moral conscience has been persecuted by the rich then...to accommodate their theft of the nation's assets. Now we only stones remain, but still they try to bleed them. Insatiable gluttons cannot help themselves...even using their party's demise to feather their own nests. Talk about self-destruct.
