  1.  @swifty64  Miner's strike, pivotal moment. And when we lost those state owned heavy industries, at the same time we lost people ownership, social housing, and people power, be it through unions, or mass work bases, their clubs, communities, and the Labour party, which sold the people out by not standing up to Thatcher. Thus, we lost the idea of sharing, and building caring communities. Not only the concept of community, but that of community ownership also plummeted in those days, then, surprise, surprise, most of our economy was handed on a silver platter to private and global business, who made an absolute killing. And that was taxpayers money that built up those industries and infra-structure, given away for a song to people already very, very rich. For those with foresight, the energy issue was an issue long ago, but the pit closures were not done on some ecological, high-valued basis as a few Tories have tried to suggest, from known lying PMs, but done for the profit of those who give paychecks to the Tories, private business again. The capitalist model streams all wealth, power and fame to the top too, but these acts, for the good of the rich getting even richer, have pulled the foundations out from under of us of our once strong, sustainable, resourceful nation. And we have not looked back since then, as we have been on a steep and slippery slope into oblivion. Everything is a commodity to the business model and its way of doing tings. We are all competitors, so even subconsciously, man works against his fellow man. Little wonder now there is a deep divide between neighbours, not just the classes, nations, and races. Motives are everything, and form the structures we live and breathe in, but we are not naturally educated to consider these as Neil said, or rarely, and so we neatly tend to fit in with society's whims, unhappy,f frustrated, unless a person has special resources to buy himself out of the system, and create a mini-world of safety and comfort just for himself and his family, but then you need money, so welcome to the club, or some just prefer to rage and become a destructive and outright anarchist. So make a faulty system, you get more faulty leaders, and faulty communities, faulty people. Perhaps, this is why some of the elites feel it is time to replace us all with machines, as we are showing many signs of deterioration and imperfection. Man will soon destroy man, for when I look at history, and compare it with my 64 years of experiences, this is more than losing the manufacturing industries, but it's about losing the fundamental values that were inherent in those tight-knit communities, where love and hard earnest work abounded, and was abundant. And their thanks was the loss of all their jobs, money, pride and dignity, to be labelled the enemy within by lying tabloids who supported the rich, curfews on our streets, living in a police state, innocent people beaten up for simply being on the street and going to work, children beaten. All so a few could have far more of the the cake than others, and this is what is killing the world, fear of scarcity, and fear in general, not specifically the loss of manufacturing jobs, for we have lost the ability to reason.
