@miles6910 Those people likely to follow a religion, or a cult, or sect, are those with a predisposition to a blind allegiance for something, or someone. Fear and guilt are the main taproots, and vanity is their shield, narrowmindedness and false perspectives the outcomes. Guilt from what one may ask; well try not applying rigorous honesty in all one's endeavours, a responsibility that each man has, both for himself, and others, for one's actions, or inactions, do impact the 'whole'. Discernibility then is the key to truth, and it is the conscience and spirit of a man that urges inquiry into the real root causes of man's woes, for seek and ye shall find. The cultish zealots though are easily identifiable, as they will always prefer to seek to oppress truth; and marginalise, ostracise and ridicule the genuine truth-seekers, usually by the pot calling the kettle black, in precise forms of projection. The battle for a true perspective of truth itself is part of man's struggle for life and salvation, hence the inner relief on discovering an oasis of truth, such as Dr Campbell's site. For the enlightened such truthful perspectives are easily distinguishable from the views and actions of those who belong to the plethora of departments of the Ministry of Truth, who use Newspeak and doublethink to control the ignorant. How does one know when one has become free of the Matrix-like hold and propaganda of the cultists...for one you can breathe again, for freedom relieves the suffocating effects of oppression. Thee are other means of recognising one's freedom too, such as the inner peace one can possess, but as it is a journey of self-discovery, I shall leave it to your SELF to find the feelings of, and expressions of freedom and truthfulness.
