  1. There were plenty of caravans and wild dogs howling at night 25 yrs ago when I was up there often for a weekend or week in my tent. I mixed with some of the homeless, and they seemed really sweet. I know the situations changing now...there looks more caravans, and the drug and homeless issues...and mh issues... are all much worse. The govts we had ran the country down from the 70s and 80s...and friendly communities that had resources for everyone are non existent now. Public baths closing, sports facilities closing...care facilities closing...Housing issues, employment issues and so on, on the increase...then add immigration problems...the country is imploding and it's unsettling for everyone. Glastonbury itself is an unusual place...it has high spiritual energies that attracts people, unaware of its spiritual significance and meaning, although they sense something and it draws them. Then it has the music festival, and it has the Tor, the Abbey, the Wells, and other sacred places, and quite a decent size shopping centre that reflects the spiritual core of the town. It's a shame there is not the money to upgrade the caravans, and develop those buildings and sites...the people seemed respectable...but without resources, it can seem like a losing battle.   17.  @BigBrotherwillwatchyou  Since the Miners Strike...the corporates and super rich have asset stripped parts of the world...for the UK it meant denationalisation...then a plummet into 3rd world poverty...now politicians are forced to work with them and their system...as they threaten them. It will be very messy shaking off these systems of governance...like a raging fever...but it has to happen at some pt!

  18.  @MrEdrftgyuji  Thank s...you've just reminded me how truly idle today's society are...when young...all women had their own hardy bags that they used for shopping. Myself, from 10 yrs old, at weekends...and my grandma daily at 75 yrs old...walked over a mile to town...and back...laden with shopping. Never thought about it...just did it...and they were heavy bags...but then my grandma had been introduced to heavy work at 10 picking large rocks our of coal. I guess they just don't make em like that these days...even getting off the sofa is hard work...and the corner shop must be visited in the car. Say no more!

My volumes gone but this place dont half remind me of Glastonbury...called off there for some water one time ...and became entrapped in Glaston time...took me yrs to get out, never been the same since...sleeping around the Tor I was. Met many witches and wizards...tree elves...I was off with the fairies...found some sacred places...full of atmosphere and ambience...got a wand too...and wandered off and had a wanderous time since...although it spelt disaster for the darkness...for I too ...just like Harry Potter discovered that I have inherent super powers. That town crier needs to watch out...many folk would like the prestige of spending some time in London Tower...and they get a free trip there if they attack him. I just love freebies...must get maself back up there. Besides...cant do with cry babies! But I guess every town has at least one...or they did. Talking about freebies, I got some free deer horns from Wentworth Woodhouse Estate...worth a visit...that was when I became King o the Woods...some call me Tarzan...so I'm not just part of Edgar Burroughs imagination...but well known swinger around the clubs up north, or I was until I went to Glaston, after which I lost my grip...on life itself...That water is healing water...the nature spirits make it so...water sprites...usually dwell nr the source. Take enough and you go pink...it looks groovy...for love-after all, what do you get when mixing red and white. The iron will make you super magnetic, so you absorb the powers of Glaston...and might develop super powers like me and Harry...in the New Jeruslalem. Video man was high on that water. I think I was high too when there...dont remember anything before waking up in the Abbey, next to that grave...now the video man mentions it...could have been lead on the brain mmmm. Anyway bye for now...hope you are all in the pink...love and peace

I worked at a pit in the Deane Valley...living in Wombwell (worth a visit, although Brampton may be better...to study an isolated sml village that grew around the collliery called Cortonwood that caused the Strike in 84...I studied in Ponypridd too, stayin up the Rhonnda. The Dearne, Don and Rhonnda Valleys drove the engine of the Commonwealth...coal, steel, steam...engineering goods...ships and so on. S Yorks is around the same size too, the Welsh lads took to rugby, and Yorkies did footie and cricket... real communities...strong, resolute...it's very difficult in the modern world without outside investment though. This place looks as though it could easily have some things going for it...an eco village...small crafts and trades...a few windmills.

Neither would he dream to come over here...foreigners used to come for the great shops we had...but since that grocer er took charge...all we have are barbers...although what goes on inside them is anyone's business...then again if folk like short hair...maybe a weekly cut is the way to go...we'll have towns full of barbers...we'll end up calling the city centres...barber centres...

  37. The comments about coal and industry fading away being some kind of natural process were rubbish...there were many yrs left, and some good methods of burning it cleaner were on their way. This was about the neoliberalism entering the right wing politics of the time...creating a power base from whence Mrs T and Reagan could cause carnage like this....destroying communities, industries and unions alike...to asset strip the nation, and allow the super rich to swallow up all the country's wealth...an d remove its voice. It's not surprising many from these places became ill...and claim certain benefits...now the neolibs are coming for those monies too...and will leave nothing to the man at the bottom, despite them having extraordinary wealth. I agree it's very very sad...and people need to see how the system works, and fight by whatever means possible...but most of all...this is darkness through greed and lust for power through the selfishness of a few...whose interests were placed over and above the masses. Then, you have to sink or swim...and if you swim, do you coerce with their system and climb your way up the few ladders there are out there for a few with big talents and greedy eyes...or do you look for a different way of life. Soon, capitalism will collapse...it is tottering now, so I think to start anew with sustainable initiatives would be a good idea for places like this. You may have to be innovative...but they seem to still have the old community spirit of the past ghosting around the town.
