  4.  @cynthiamorris1874  I was only thinking, he was from my mother's street in Huddersfield somewhere near to the Football ground...as was Danny Kaye the actor...she ended up in Barnsley after meeting my father...a bit of a culture shock there! I liked Mr Wilson too...a bit like an old uncle or grandad...with his pipe and mac...caring for his nephews and nieces in his quietly charming laid back way...

  7.  @lesliecarter4295  I think I'm going to get 'cold turkey' soon...I'm so elated by that statement...there has to be a low now...a true modern day Christmas Story...but one can see we are going back to the days of Dickens. We almost succeeded as a nation when the NHS was formed...the NCB too...and other national assets were nationalised...with the Co-ops playing a big role too...with a nice balance of small businesses. Now the sense of common good values and sharing is almost forgotten...along with a sense of working for a living, rather than making money for a living...an the Christmas Spirit...where be he...for he is hard to find...hope he comes back soon though...to haunt these b_stards in power...

  9. I thought that in 84 when I entered the Miner's Strike...then I found out different. They began as a political extension of the unions and workers...but now are well in with the Big Global Corporates...the corridors of power are corrupt...greed rules them. Why did they not decline their own heating subsidies when they have plenty of dosh...enough said...since the Strike the country has lost its values and way...all downhill from here...next it will be benefit cuts! So no matter how much you paid in the system and worked hard...they will screw you when it suits them...they have no and little conscience these days...the £ note and profit margins come before everything...including humane values!

  11.  @mickm7786  I was from a mining town...and what I noticed is that although most folk stuck together...and forged unions and close-knit communities...that then went on and established the Labour Party to extend their voices into the halls and corridors of power...there were always a few who were self-seeking...eventually this led to scabs...whole areas...whole peoples...and with it a path of treachery by the Labour party by which they made contact with the Devil...and his super rich global corporate mates. The die is cast...each man must decide for himself the road he takes, and if you can find a community, a haven that harbours good values...then cherish that oasis like one in the desert where water is scarce. For you can no longer rely upon your political leaders to care for or about you, or your communities.
