  2.  @rafl326  Look up Viet Cong death squads. Throughout the war and after, they were tasked with finding villages suspected of aiding the Americans and completely destroying them. Mai Lai doesn't even hold a candle to the number of Vietnamese innocents murdered by the Viet Cong. The most famous photograph of the war, Nguyễn Văn Lém about the be executed by General Nguyễn Ngọc Loan, illustrates this. Lém was a Viet Cong guerilla and leader of one such death squad. When he was captured, he was found near the bodies of roughly 30 people, including children.
