  2. First of all, ostentatious "charity" is a dumb american obsession. We don't do that around here, having tuxedo galas and charity dinners with silent auctions at the Hamptons with $50,000 seats just isn't our culture. But most importantly, we have the highest taxes in the civilized world, someone like mr Arnault pays around 60% income tax between his salaries and dividends. So there's really no reason to do the charity thing when you're already taxed that much. Inheritance tax can go as high as 60%, and you don't get to disinherit your kids in favour of some dumb charity, so the "Giving Pledge" wouldn't even make any sense in France, so there's also that.
