The Captain Marvel movie came into existence so that Kevin Feige's work girlfriend could have her own superhero movie.

I prefer Director X's old name: Director Twitter.

"Modern audiences" really means "my friends and co-workers in Hollywood."

Lightsaber wounds in current Star Wars are like bullet wounds in action movies: barely an inconvenience.

Considering some of the competition --- Batwoman, Naomi, The Rings of Power, Willow, The Witcher: Blood Origin, Velma --- Netflix's show getting such low ratings is quite an accomplishment.

@Evi1 M4chine That’s literally the most common mental illness, right after schizoid illnesses (religiousness, superstition, beliefs, …) nowadays. I call it “the anxiety epidemic” I'd say it's rampant narcissism which is the most common mental illness. Everything has to be about them. The world has to praise them, their media has to reflect/"include" them.

@doomkeepercanada As I recall the story, the shot was originally for the helicopter to quickly peel up and over the bridge. Then the stunt pilot said, hey, how about I fly under the bridge? The suggestion was eventually approved and the pilot actually flew under the bridge for the shot. There is a small mistake later on in the sequence. If you watch carefully, as the helicopter slams into the back of the police van, it actually starts exploding before it makes contact with the van.

@robc9662 They make most of their money through the parks they don’t care. If that was true, Disney wouldn't be laying off 7,000 people. That it is means it is hurting financially to some extent. And given how Universal's park is doing better and better, even Disney's park income may not be untouchable.

Come now, she is clearly Egypt's greatest historian.

As someone wiser than me put it, Marvel doesn't hire writers or directors, they cast them.

Imagine bringing back my favourite doctor of all time and the first thing to do is completely disrespect his character. It makes perfect sense when you realize that Chibnall''s job was to kill Dr. Who, and Davies' job was to urinate on its grave.

I'll say it: David Lynch's Dune is an objectively bad movie.

It's just a shame the film badly dates itself with its inclusion of real-world early 1980s politics regarding Central America. Kubrick made the smart choice of staying away from contemporary politics, and depicted U.S-Soviet relations in a subtle manner. Hyams went the opposite route and hamfistedly stuffed 1980s Reagan-era politics into his. It significantly detracts from the film.
5
Do you like contemporary politics being injected into a movie? If you answered no, then you should have some beef with 2010, given that it had early 1980s, Reagan-era Cold War politics stuffed into it. This ages the film badly.
5
Bob Iger is determined to go down in Disney history at the worst CEO the company has ever had.
5
I would agree were it not for the hamfisted inclusion of real-world, 1980s Reagan-era politics in the movie. That ages the film badly. Hell, the allegory was so heavy-handed it annoyed the heck out of me when I saw the film in the theater. (Yeah, I'm old.)

I can't wait for the Netflix series set in feudal Japan in which half the Samurai are black and half are women.
4
Except for the ridiculously heavy-handed early 1980s, Cold War-era politics involving Central America. This dates the film very badly. Notice how 2001 was subtle in its depiction of U.S.-Soviet relations. 2010 throws that subtlety out the window in favor of injecting real-world early 1980s politics into the movie. Younger folks who weren't around then won't understand, but Central America and the civil war in El Salvador (really a proxy war between the U.S. and Soviets) was a big thing back then under the Reagan administration. Hyams, evidently, just couldn't resist putting in the politics of the day into his film.

It's not a documentary, it's a fauxmentary.
2
Seeing as Snow White put Disney on the map, it would be hilariously ironic if this MODERN version nuked it into oblivion. It would be a sad ending, but as Zathras observed, at least there would be symmetry.
2
It's just a shame he stuffed early 1980s, Eeagan-era Cold War politics into this movie. A conflict over Central America is very much a product of that time.

Q: What do Edward Smith, Kathleen Kennedy, and Kevin Feige have in common? A: They all are captains of sinking ships.

I, for one, salute our new God Emperor Drinker!
1
I suspect Kevin Smith was working through some weird personal issues while making this show.
1
Shhh! Don't mention the wagon, or else you'll set Shadiversity off again!

Why the hell hasn't AT&T cleaned house at Warner? It's baffling.
1
I think it's clear at this point Kevin Fiege is the Marvel version of HBO's Benioff & Weiss --- someone who looked good due to the work of others, and when finally given full control, demonstrates he doesn't actually know what he's doing.
1
On the other hand, the film contains heavy-handed and (now) very dated Cold War politics involving Central America.
1
It's funny, many complain about movies these days injecting current-era politics into them. Yet that's exactly what 2010 did: it had early 1980s, Reagan-era Cold War politics injected into the movie. To its detriment, in my view, because it ages the film badly.
1
You mean you aren't excited for the show set in feudal Japan in which half the Samurai are black and half are women?
1
"Fast & Furious 9 - Running On Empty" Nah, it'll be fine.
1
And her sisters Dasani,, Evian, and Perrier are completely ignored.
1
It's just a shame Hyams had to stuff in real-word, early 1980s Reagan-era Cold War politics over Central America into the movie. That causes the film to age badly compared to 2001, which deals with U.S.-Soviet relations in a subtle way.
1
Looks like this director will have to apologize for making a bad film --- again.
1
2010 doesn't hold up because of its ridiculously heavy-handed allegory to early 1980s Cold War politics involving Central America. It really dates the film badly. (The heavy-handedness was so bad it annoyed me when I saw the film in theaters -- yeah, I'm old.)

We are truly in Hollywood's turd golden age. That's turd, not third, golden age.

Excuse me, I have a question. How does Ocean Man arrive at a landlocked Wakanda?
