the USSR had a massive nuke advantage over China, China in 1969 , the Soviets had a big nuke missle force, the Chinese tested their first IRBMs in 1969. Chinese did not have a lot of nukes , probably around 50. and they were bomber based and nuclear mines. the Chinese had a small bomber fleet, which could reach not far into the USSR while the USSR can reach all of china wiht its bombers and missles, if war broke out and turned nuclear, the Chinese would be hit very hard by Soviet nukes. I can see the collapse of the Chinese gov and china going into civil war. The Soviets would get hit but will easilly manage the destruction. Mao was just simply insane to attempt war with the USSR.

@andrewlim7751 stalemate, war started at the 38th parallel ended at the 38th parallel, I can say UN won, in fact, South Korea got a little bigger than the start of hte war.

@BlackHawkBallistic and yes both Mao and Chiang were aholes to the ninth degree in their own rights but Chiang Kai shek would have been much palatable than Mao.

@riceball4u172 True but the Soviets also have a simliar mentality to the Chiense in the value of human life. but the difference between the USSR army in late 60s and the US army of the1950s is that the Soviet troops were all armed with fully automatic weapons with a massive artillery and air support, and had lots of ammo to expend.

yah the Chinese were super brainwashed at the time, to North Korea levels, Many Red Guard thought that their little red mao books would make them bullet proof, it was that crazy back then. Good thing Mao died, and his wife got put in jail and more saner Chinese leadership took over.

@jerryc5743 Yep the ahole Mao even thanked the Japanese PM in the 1960s for invading China since without the war with Japan, Mao would not have been leader.

@BlackHawkBallistic well Chiang Kai Shek or his son Chang Ching Kuo leaders of the KMT the guys who ran to Taiwan would have been a bit better than the CCP, China would have opened up to the west a lot earlier, a strong ally vs. the USSR during the cold war. and in the war against japan, the KMT was at the fore front fighting, the CCP was hiding most of the time.

@C929卡布 Hey I never said Chiang Kai shek was stupid , I personally think Chiang was very smart, and was very good at playing political games, in the KMT , however he got outmaneuvered by Mao. He almost destroyed the CCP but was interrupted and really weakened by the Japanese. Chiang and Mao were both very smart but Mao was better at self advertising and propoganda and he smartly let Chiang fight the Japanese most of the time while Mao and the CCP hid and strengthened. Also Mao understood the Chinese peasantry well which at the time was 90 percent of hte population, Chiang being the elite 1 percent only understood the upper class 10 percent. in the end Mao won, but interestingly I posit, the China now is more of the vision of Chiang than Mao, the CCP looks more like the KMT of the 1930s. Sincve the CCP is not communist but authoritarian capitalist just like the KMT. Heck the CCP is helping the KMT in Taiwan but funding it during elections. since the KMT and are in a 3rd united front vs. the Taiwanese independence movement. AND I KNOW MY CHINESE HISTORY VERY MUCH SUPERIOR QUALITY

@hello_world704 how can mao even drop nukes on the USA, in 1969 the Chinese did not have missles to reach the USA. , drop nukes on US forces in Vietnam , maybe , and if that happened, USA would nuake the crap out of China and divide the ruins between USSR and USA. Mao is crazy.
