Russians usually misread a lot of things in the west, in fact, starting with Putin underestimating USA resolve since Putin was sold on Biden being a weak pres. also Putin seems to misread everything about their former soviet team mates like Ukraine, thought Ukraine would fold and welcome Russian troops with flowers, what they got was welcoming Russian troops with javelins and bullets hahaha and most horrendous war Russia has faced since WW2.
