  1. not surprised Russia is desperate to keep their supply lines going to Africa and Latin America. The rebels are controlled by Turkey who does not want Russian dominance in the area.

  2. while the Turks may look like they are buddy buddy with the Russians, actually they hate each other. as characterized by the Russian ambassador getting assasinated in Ankara back in 2016 and the shooting down of a Russian SU-24 by a Turkish Jet in 2020 all to send messages to Russia.
