Asbestos pcbs etc. Spaces cannot be opened or put on the tour route until they have been remediated. This stipulation applies to these two ships only. Though new jersey and missouruh also do as well but this is out of caution not obligation thru the navy. Not sure if the EPA requires it. Also cutting a big ass hole in the side of the ship which is what the non profit that owns iowa plans to do.......is not beneficial to keeping her in a ready to return status.
