Technically...........constitution is in commision which if you really squint at it is comparable to a ship of the line with was the ancestor to the battleship

@erichammond9308 well she had a performance similar to a ship of the line even with less firepower and didn't need to be escorted. So if you squint at it she kinda was the capital ship of this country for a time. At the very least the closest thing to one left. And she did battle with other ships so........battle...ship.

@Sparks68 until 2009........all the restrictions are not for future service but for environmental reasons. Asbestos pcbs etc. Spaces cannot be opened or put on the tour route until they have been remediated. This stipulation applies to these two ships only. Though new jersey and missouruh also do as well but this is out of caution not obligation thru the navy. Not sure if the EPA requires it. Also cutting a big ass hole in the side of the ship which is what the non profit that owns iowa plans to do.......is not beneficial to keeping her in a ready to return status.
