I've had a girlfriend like that; she grew up in a very intellectual environment and didn't want to be exposed to lower class people. It was a shock to her that I had friends who are nurses and truckdrivers and it stressed her so much to be in the presence of these people.

@alex_inside I consider it snobby as well and I feel like she doesn't realize how snobbish she is (especially how misplaced her snobbishness is).

@bruceneu8588 The issue was not that these people exist, but that I have these people in my circle of friends. She would ideally have just friends who are intellectually stimulating so it was difficult for her to make conversation with these people and she ideally wanted me to drop them as friends.

@unchpunchem8947 it was not about income, it was about education level. She only wanted to affiliate with people who were academically educated.

@unchpunchem8947 it’s not about the length of the education, it’s about the level. A nurse doesn’t have an academic degree like a doctor has.

@frida507 She was very intelligent and sophisticated. At the beginning I saw her snobbism as an unfortunate side effect of her high intelligence. But it did eventually play a role when I ended the relationship.

@russian beaches Again, it was not about wealth to her. It was about intellectualism. Her parents were University Professors in Bulgaria and you would be surprised how little that earned. When you saw the apartment she grew up in, you really wondered where she found the nerves to be this posh.
