Not the hardcore conservatives. But to the centrists who see high inflation and say, "Maybe voting for the other party will work", this could be useful information. And those are the voters we need to get.

Because "working" means a different thing to them than it does to us. They see wealth as a virtue, therefore rich people deserve to be made even more rich. To them, these plans do work. We see wealth as the means to a comfortable life, so when money is diverted away from struggling people toward rich people who are already comfortable, we don't like it.

It was the international currency market. The exchange rate is based on how many people buy and sell each currency, similar to the stock market. On the day the Truss administration announced the budget, a bunch of traders sold their pounds, and the value of the pound vs. the dollar dropped 4%. That led everyone else to question the budget. Those traders don't have political agendas. They just want to make money. And the Truss budget made the pound less trustworthy. I love how conservatives praise the virtues of the free market, until that free market disagrees with their ideology.

@paulgibby6932 A few of them were probably rich people from the UK, but I assume most of them were from other countries. The pound was already a big inflation risk due to a low interest rate and lots of government spending on energy subsidies. The Truss budget made tax cuts that weren't matched by spending cuts, meaning an even larger budget deficit and an even higher risk of inflation. That rightfully spooked the investors. I don't know if it was worth making her resign over, but it was definitely a mistake. You want a leader that can read the situation and not just throw trickle-down economics at every problem.

Kudlow straight up saying Truss's budget is what Republicans want to do to America needs to be in commercials. Worried about inflation? Vote for Republicans, and watch the dollar lose 4% of its value in a single day.
