The weird thing is about 60% of Americans are where we are on most policy issues. It's just not translating to actual legislation because of structural issues like the Senate and electoral college, corporate bribery, and voters getting hijacked by their fear brain.

@sorzin2289 This. Global warming started as a scientific term, and when they said "global warming", they meant global warming. The globe is warming. That's just correct. The real problem is that certain political groups have trained Americans to be hostile toward nuance. Expecting science to not require some explanation is ridiculous.

To make them suck less. I guarantee people in the UK or Germany don't have the same disdain for police that we do. Because their police don't suck. Sometimes you need serious dudes with guns to solve a problem. Where we fail is we use those serious gun dudes for a lot of situations they don't belong in.

@Nutrollio What other polls? Even Fox News has shown polls where extending Medicare or health insurance in general to everyone has massive support. In 2020 alone, Florida voted for a $15 minimum wage, Montana and South Dakota voted to legalize cannabis, and Missouri voted to expand Medicaid. Solid red states whose voters wanted left wing policies. Remember that "pre-existing conditions" thing that Trump kept promising to protect because his base supports it? That's not a Republican thing. That came from Obamacare. A lot of Republicans vote the way they do because they get scared by words like "socialism" (which their beloved Social Security would certainly count as) and "critical race theory" (a term Christopher Rufo admitted to misusing for fearmongering purposes). They vote against their own interests, wonder why they're always unhappy, and assume it must be The Left's fault. But when you ask them about individual left wing policies, a good chunk of them do support the policies.
