Electric cars might be useful because they decrease the pollution on cities, which is where people live. Not having particulate in the air near people is better. Even if you still burn oil to power the electric vehicles, the oil burning facility will have filtering tanks for particulate that actually work (unlike the tiny catalytic converters).
The problem with pollution isn't the CO2, its the particulate getting into people's lungs, if you burn all the energy required in a big engine, it will be more efficient, produce less pollution and produce it far away from city centers, where it can dissipate can cause less problems.
But, with the "climate change" cult, CO2 is a villain, the demon itself.
So we create a fake problem instead of solving the real problem caused by the pollution.
