  1. the "low tension" piston ring is a misunderstanding; the pressure put on the cylinder walls is the same (and so just as effectively prevents blowby), but because the rings are thinner, there's less surface area on which the pressure can apply force, thus applying less force and by extension less friction. The issues come when, like you say, the oil control rings get prematurely clogged or are poorly designed and it stops working.

  2. Gravity Casting means the metal is poured into the cast, and the metal flows via gravity. This would not increase strength over injection casting, where the metal is injected under pressure into the casting. The only difference is cost, and the reason why you'd do one or the other is if you have a more complex casting geometry, and so conventional gravity casting can not do the job. The difference is likely just the valve stems, and that can be rectified by swapping over the valve guides.
