"Taxpayers" are not "innocent people." We're collectively responsible for the conduct of everyone we elect regardless of whether we, as individuals, voted for them or even voted at all. In the case of unelected LEOs we're still responsible for electing the government that put them where they are. As long as we treat our most basic civic duty (voting) like it's a casual thing that doesn't require our full attention, we're going to see abuses of power that cost us reparations.

@niyablake As an incorrigible grammar nazi I've got to say this: "no" and "know" don't mean the same thing. To the 21st century mentality, meaning isn't important - but to those of us who were born too soon, it still matters.

The offending parties should be forced to take out a FULL-PAGE newspaper ad stating "The behavior.of arresting officers [insert names] was inexcusably vicious, menacing and insulting. The conduct of DA [insert name] was negligent and high-handed. The harm done to [insert victim's name] is irreparable and unforgivable. No apology could possibly undo the damage done." To anyone about to tell me that'd never be allowed: Ikr? I was only talking about what justice would look like, not reality.

@AFloridaSon Lol autocorrect pranked you. You meant to type "back into" and your keyboard changed it to "mackintosh."

@MattW-vh1ew You're correct that the people we elect are bought off by the donor class. This is a condition that we as voters have complacently permitted for generations. At the federal level Bernie and his few cohorts in the House are just about the only exceptions and they're hated for it by the leaderships of both parties. However the idea that I'm implying that we, as the electorate, should share prison sentences with any corrupt officials who do get held accountable is just extending any responsibility on our part to its most absurd conclusion merely for absurdity's sake. The implication is that we the people should be more or less free of any responsibility for how carelessly we vote and how seldom we keep the officials we elect under close.scrutiny. I disagree.

However, suggesting that the whole electorate should share the prison sentences of any corrupt officials who get caught is merely extending any responsibility on our part to its most absurd conclusion just for absurdity's sake. The implication is that we the people aren't seriously responsible for the short-term and long-term consequences of how carelessly we vote and how seldom we keep those we elect under close scrutiny. I disagree.
