Amen! I wish more YT commenters were that tolerant and rational.

@theonlygoodlookinghabsburg2081 Yep, got it. Sadly, if anyone in the Squad runs for president in 2024 the DNC will fight them all the way.

@theangryquad3127 How many years in food service are required to qualify for Congress? Which Congressmembers met that requirement? How many years did AOC spend NOT working at real jobs? I think what bothers you is that the Squad won their seats without selling a piece of their campaigns to the corporate owners of Congress. It bothers Gops and centri$t Dems a lot and you sound like one of them.

@theonlygoodlookinghabsburg2081 That's an interesting perspective, I'll have to give it some thought. I can visualize instances that might bear it out. However some of us weren't captivated by Obama in the first place. I already knew in '08 that he was going to be to the right of my preference, and a lot of people were disillusioned as soon as he appointed his cabinet. But I certainly take your point about failed liberalism being a motivator of the left, partly because it's an irritation when a party that's obviously center-right calls itself liberal.

@theonlygoodlookinghabsburg2081 "... progress may be slower than it should be..." If there's one thing I've learned about US politics in my 70+ years it's that a system that gives equal voice to all sides will not change anything as soon as I want it to change nor as completely as I want it changed. I just want to get back to all sides even having a voice. I saw the Reagan Revolution alter government to the point We The People are all but voiceless. I want to see corporate ownership of government ended or at least curtailed during my remaining lifetime, and the taxpayers' money reallocated from corporate welfare to the common good. I want to see, at the very least, signs that it's coming while I'm still alive to celebrate.

@theonlygoodlookinghabsburg2081 It was a bitter time. But most things are relative; least I knew which side I was on. In my youth in 1968 I was confused enough to wind up voting for Nixon. Anything's better than that.

@theonlygoodlookinghabsburg2081 Did you really mean to say "progressives in the DNC?" Because I don't think there are any. As far as I know every corporate-free officeholder is totally outside the elite inner circle of party leadership. I could be wrong; correct me if you know differently.

@theonlygoodlookinghabsburg2081 It sounds weird to say this but in a way Trump did the left a favor. I think the grassroots got more engaged because of his election than they might have during a Clinton presidency. So now there's a Resistance in place that'll be just as needed under the Biden administration. Corporate-free candidates can make a difference on city councils and school boards in ways that the elites in the Beltway can't control, and meanwhile the Squad is growing in spite of everything the Gops and Dem centri$ts are doing to stop them. I just hope the millennials and gen Z will have a longer attention span than my generation did. Peace, justice and power to the people were watchwords in the 60s but forgotten by too many in the eighties. Will the Squad get the same popular support when the millennials are in their forties? Or their fifties?

Ha! Someone asked an honest question about Elliot Page and got a civil informative response. Compare that to YouTube where the typical reply would be "STFU you f***ing bigot."
