@MuhammadAhmed-qh7ut I agree there's no hate between Bernie and Biden. In fact as far as I'm aware Bernie doesn't hate ANYBODY. He just has a vision to bring democracy to America and he knows who'll help that vision happen and who'll stand in the way. But no hate, he just keeps working.

Well hey, if "it's time for a woman in the WH" why Kamala? Haven't they heard of Tulsi? Elizabeth? Marianne? I mean I'm backing Bernie but if he doesn't get the nomination I'll be damned if I want Harris just because she's a woman. Some women are jerks just like some men.

@lisanavarro2641 We sure do! I've got cousins and friends our age who'll either definitely or probably vote for Bernie. They darn well WON'T vote for Harris.

@tedkevinstevenson Well he hasn't said, so I don't know. But being opposed to corporate ownership of government doesn't make me a Bernie-or-Buster so it doesn't necessarily make him one. If another progressive gets the nomination (and I'm not one of the purists who rule out Warren) I'll vote for whoever it is. If it's a centri$t who'll serve the corporate ruling class I'll still vote against Trump and just try not to gag as I vote. Anyway what I'm saying is I wouldn't be too sure there are any Sanders fanatics in this thread but I wouldn't be surprised if Bernie's the first choice of most of us here.

@Daniea3 Hadn't thought of that. May be. But I think Bernie's pretty much the type to focus on getting the job done and not waste emotional energy on whoever's the obstacle in the way.

@laymanlogic For me the minimal litmus test is whether the candidate refuses to let corporate interests buy a piece of his/her campaign. Bernie was the first I know of to do that and Tulsi won her wings when she walked away from a likely DNC chairmanship prospect to work in Bernie's campaign.

@electric6877 "The people his age" includes Bernie and me (I was born in the Truman administration) and no matter how saintly the millennial self-image may be there's a "brainwashed and indoctrinated and racist" element within your generation just as there is in Bernie's and mine.

@lisanavarro2641 Yeah, I don't blame Nina either for staying out of it. And I agree about the younger candidates (I was born in the Truman administration) but I like Tulsi anyway. Bernie's my guy though.

@ThePlatineist I share your ambivalence about Warren. I actually wanted her in 2016 but got behind Bernie when she made it clear she wouldn't run. I like her reform proposals but it really bothers me that she's planning to take corporate donations if she's nominated. I don't see her as an evil schemer but if she starts taking money from the ruling class I worry whether she can be immune to influence. Bernie's been steadfastly unwaveringly leftist for over five decades. He's my guy. And Tulsi isn't offering the ruling class any opportunities to buy a piece of her campaign so I'm confident of her position, especially since she was in line for the DNC chair but went to work on Bernie's campaign in 2016 instead.

@Julian Cicone That's why I'm not writing her off yet. If she won the WH and progressives won the Senate I actually think we'd be in pretty good shape with folks like Bernie and the Squad on the Hill to keep her honest. But if the Gops hold the Senate or win more seats in the House I'll be worried which way a Warren presidency would swing.

@Julian Cicone I agree. But I have more confidence in Bernie or another leftist to carry the progressive agenda a little farther. As I said, I don't think Warren's an evil schemer. She won't suddenly whip off a mask to reveal a corporate monster underneath but she might be vulnerable to more compromise than absolutely necessary. There's so much nuance to politics - whether it's national, state or local - that no choice is unequivocal unless you're a true believer, and true believers are dangerous.

@Julian Cicone As I said earlier, she was even my preference in 2016 - Bernie was my second choice. The only thing that's changed since then is I'm with Bernie 1st, Liz 2nd. Tulsi for Secretary of State (some ambivalence there because I'd hate to lose her on the Hill).

@ThePlatineist I respect that opinion and I'm pro-BDS but the left is split on whether it's the best way. It isn't just Tulsi vs everybody else. On Palestine I think she's as anti-apartheid, pro-human-rights and pro-peace as anyone on the left. The ultimate solution is for the US to stop funding human rights violations and the only way that can happen is to get big money out of government. Tulsi stands there and she stands strong.

@Julian Cicone Certainly all candidates have flaws including Bernie and Tulsi. I'm not looking for a savior, I'm looking for who'll be the most useful person in a specific job at this specific time.

@lisanavarro2641 Actually I think the millennials are our best hope. They may exasperate me sometimes, mostly because they don't realize they're growing old as we speak and a future generation will see them the way they see us. But the things they want politically, from what I see in these threads, are what we wanted in the 60s. And this time the generation demanding change looks to be prepared to do the work of bringing it about. I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm hoping the brainwashed among them can't hold them back.

@idontwantone132 You're right. A case in point is Tulsi Gabbard who's done nothing to promote a personality cult and yet she's got one within her following. They're full of vehemence and vitriol against every other candidate and think she's the only progressive in the race. Their behavior doesn't reflect her reasoned and rational campaign. She's not divisive but part of her fanbase is.

@lisanavarro2641 Well I didn't have parents who were willing to have the kind of conversation you and I are having here. They were so hard-right that I was indoctrinated to the point I campaigned for Barry Goldwater when I was 17 and voted for Nixon when I was 21 (I got over it, voted against him the next time and haven't voted on the right since). My childhood was a mixed bag, they were permissive in some ways and authoritarian in others. Oh and yes, I was a Spock baby.

@lisanavarro2641 Yes. I grew up in a household so contrarian they were Republican in a state that was overwhelmingly Solid South Democrat (Texas). I don't think anyone else on either side of the family was Republican. But I had Jewish friends in highschool; they and their parents made a dent in my indoctrination but it took college and psychedelics to dislodge my rigid worldview.
