You nailed it, the second his race was revealed they went with "family suspects mental health issues" not a peep about open ISIS sympathies, radical Islamist beliefs (Christ and Mary were Muslims he said), rabid anti Trump posts. Media also went silent on the fact FBI knew about the guy and his sympathies regarding ISIS but did nothing just like in San Bernadino, Orlando and Boston.
