He also endorsed several published stories claiming he did serve in Iraq, one even added Afghanistan.

@allthingsnerd.4484 He said he carried a weapon of war in war (never did) and said he served in the operation Enduring Freedom giving the false impression he served in Iraq or Afghanistan, in fact he only served in a support capacity in Italy, when people published stories that stated he served in combat, he never corrected them and in fact endorsed a book that made that claim.

Yes there are people, lots of people that do want to deploy to combat, if your in the military and have not deployed to combat but numerous brothers of yours have, there is a shame there for many, you want to do your part, Walz never felt that, he just cut and ran leaving his men he commanded to go to war without him, that is cowardice.

He was temporarily on a probationary basis promoted to Command Sgt Major but since he never completed required additional coursework to achieve that rank he was demoted to Master Sgt at least according to his Wikipedia bio, in reality it could have been discipline for quitting early. He in his campaigns made a big deal that he was the highest ranking enlisted (non officer) to ever serve in Congress, which is kind of a lie. He signed up for an additional 6 years but only served four quitting pretty much the moment he found out they were deploying to Iraq a combat zone, he could do that because he technically had passed retirement years of service. He has openly claimed he served in combat and endorsed publications that wrongly claimed he served in Afghanistan. He seems to be universally reviled by the men he served with.

@TrueFork He held it on a you might say probationary basis, assuming he would complete the required training which he did not.

Multiple times, like that POS Senator Blumenthal? from Connecticut that claimed to have served in Nam.
