Its like the third world in much of the country and you better be careful what you say or you will get arrested like people are in the UK, France and Germany. My friend got arrested there merely because they were associated with a rock band and a music video that mocked Putin.

I have been there, Russia is an authoritarian state much like many leftist Western countries, you better be careful what you say in the UK, France, Germany etc and in Russia or you may get arrested, why exchange one authoritarian anti Free Speech country for another. The Telegram CEO just arrested in France was constantly being harassed by the Russian FSB, they forced him to sell VK the Russian Facebook costing him tens if not hundreds of millions and they banned Telegram for several years. Another danger in Russia is would they arrest you on BS charges just in order to exchange you for an arrested Russian like they recently did. Another issue is much of Russia outside Moscow and St Petersburg is not much better than the third world.
