Average mortgage 5 years ago was around $1300, average now around $3300. You needed just a $59k income to afford a average mortgage 5 years ago, today you need a income of $106k+ to afford a average mortgage, well above the average US income. Rentals are almost impossible to find in many places, my ex wife works with a woman who has a full and a part time job, her husband has a full time job, they have $15k in the bank but are living out of their van, they cannot find anyone to rent to them, they even went to some of those long term motel places, they were all 100% full and had long long waiting lists. The country is literally collapsing from inflation and lack of housing.

China is hated by most in Africa, they create debt traps for those countries worse even than Europe does and they are extremely abusive, Russia just wants a big cut of the mineral wealth and if they get it they will keep the dictators in power. If I am going to hide in a country I want one that can feed itself and that rules out much of the world, especially Africa. Obviously avoid much of Western Europe who are getting really scary authoritarian in the last few years. I think places like Eastern Europe who generally tell the EU to eff off and Argentina are the current best spots. Going anywhere China has influence is bad because they will almost certainly be authoritarian. Much of the leftist woke insanity in the West has Chinese money and influence behind it.
