Exactly Dugin only got his ear because Putin shared much of Dugin's "Russian Empire" ideology, he was just the scholar that put it into books Putin could indoctrinate society with, a ideology to replace Communism as a unifying force, conveniently many Russians already held the Fascistic "Russian Empire" ideology.

I worked at a Federal LE agency and we were interested in various groups, most people in the "far right" boogie man group, do not even know who Alexander Dugin is, they know Putin and admire him for being "strong", "anti-woke" and "Christian", which is funny because Russia is only 47% Christian, it has a huge Muslim and Atheist population, while their "bad guy" Ukraine is a whopping 87% Christian. This "far right" group are well under 10% of the population, similar to the far left "woke" people being only 8% according to polling. Most of this "far right" group are anything but "anti freedom" as this man implies, most are radical Libertarians and extreme isolationists, most of them just want to be left alone to read their internet conspiracy theories about how everyone is out to get them, much of which is literal Russian propaganda. Various media and political parties push the whole incredibly divisive "far-right" and "far-left" boogie man, "enemy under every rock, out to get you" narrative, they are literally doing Putin and Dugin's work for them, again a lot of the internet propaganda around these narratives are actual Russian and Chinese linked websites and trolls spreading it and the media with politicians fall right into that trap to push ratings and voter turnout.
