  1. Taking cities would be the least of an invaders problems in the US, they would get eaten alive in rural America, they would be hunted for sport and fed to peoples dogs. By the way you forgot to mention the natural barrier on the West Coast of the Cascade Mountains and the Sierra range both over 14,000 feet even before you get to those you have the coast ranges which in places are 11,000 feet high.
