Read the book, completely different, it was not a fascist world and everyone had same rights except one, the right to vote and that one you had to earn with some kind of service to mankind, NOT just military. Verhoeven twisted the book to create a piece of leftist propaganda, granted a funny entertaining piece but propaganda all the same

I am sure others will point this out but the whole damn movie by the Dutch guy is propaganda, Hollywood anti military anti patriotism propaganda, READ THE BOOK, it was not like this at all, been many many years but if I remember correctly everyone had equal rights except one, only those who "served" society could vote and that meant a lot of people military, police, fire, medical etc. in other words the people who actually had skin in the game. Verhoeven was a radical lefty and found it very offensive that only people who worked for something got something, so he intentionally twisted the eff out of the story to create a typical leftist Hollywood propaganda piece.
