In case anyone was wondering, Greta's "how dare you" speech was directed at the politicians and business leaders who have ignored, or in some cases, even stifled the climate change debate for decades. And now, we have a crisis staring us in the face.

@MrFetusPretzel Human-induced climate change has been happening for decades is what I meant. You and most people just haven't noticed it and it hasn't been publicized very well. It has been happening slower than the scientists predicted so I would say that many of their predictions were not necessarily wrong, just early. Many of their predictions are well under way now, and you not knowing it does not make it any less true.

@Bry-Fi The Earth's climate is extremely complex and dynamic, so it makes it tough to make predictions even for climate scientists. Look at doctors with all their training. They can still make a wrong diagnosis. IMO, scientists underestimated how much heat the oceans absorb from the atmosphere. The heat capacity of water is very high, so as the oceans absorbed heat, it slowed down global warming significantly for decades, and ocean temps remained stable. But, now oceans have become saturated with heat and are warming rapidly, which is helping to melt the Arctic, Antarctic, and Greenland ice. Many of the scientists predictions are happening now, so IMO they were not wrong, just early.

Babylon falling Climate scientists are saying that global surface temps and ocean temps are rising, leading to changes in the speed and direction of the jet stream and ocean currents. These factors are causing record winters in the east and abnormally hot summers in the west. Also, the warming climate is melting Greenland's ice, sending massive amounts of cold fresh water into the North Atlantic. This is slowing down the Gulfstream, which carries warm water along the US east coast, helping to keep winters mild. But, as it slows down, winters become colder along the US east coast.

@Bry-Fi Look around. The scientists' predictions are becoming apparent now. Global surface temps and ocean temps are rising, and the cryosphere is melting. The sixth mass extinction of plants, insects, and animals is well under way. The warming and acidifying oceans is destroying sea life including the phyto-plankton, which absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere, generates over half the oxygen in the atmosphere, and forms the bottom of the oceans' food chain - a triple loss. Climate change is now staring us right in the face.
