Good luck standing alone when society ceases to be so safe and comfortable (which historically it will). Collaboration is one of humanities biggest strengths, if you did not know and communicate with your neighbors it is a failure of your social skills, or possibly everyone’s social skills, not dense housing which is sustainable unlike single family homes. The solution is to get out of your comfort zone and talk to strangers/make new friends, also better city design as our current cities are just as bad as suburbs really, I don’t blame you for not wanting to live there right now, but suburbs and walling yourself off from community is not the answer.

Not so voluntary when it’s written into law, or enforced by economics. It may of been natural centuries ago but the world has gotten to small for that, we live in a society where collaboration between all humans carries great Benefit.

Except for the fact that suburbs are killing cities by being to low density, and requiring lots of public infrastructure to maintain, ooof If you had to pay for your own roads, power lines, etc you would probably not be able to afford a suburb, right now they are tax subsidized by better performing parts of cities, but that won’t last forever. Apologies to disappoint O lord Duke of of suburbia *dramatic bow

Ok hitler 🤣

@danielkrcmar5395 really? Because it seems to me only spending time with people exactly the same as you leads to closed minded, judgmental, and potentially dangerously ignorant people. While those exposed to a broader set of ideals, though they don’t always agree on everything, find that that are more in common than you would think and learn to coexist. It’s radical, single minded ethnic groups that cause problems by thinking they are superior to others. And the reason humans are historically segregated is because, there were less of them, it took way longer to travel, and typically when a group moved into another group’s territory one wiped the other out. But we are in an age unlike any other so to compare the present to the past in such a direct manner is ILL advised.
2
Except for the fact that due to low density, and their infrastructure cost is higher than the taxes they generate, they are driving cities to the point of bankruptcy. They have only worked this long due to government subsidies, but those work last forever, nor should others be responsible for paying for your inefficient living style.
2
Why does being diverse automatically translate into being racist to white people?
2
I’m looking into urban planning and am finding it very difficult to make significant changes when everything is already built, not to mention the flawed mindsets and bureaucracy.
2
Considering becoming an urban planner, just subscribed for more inspiration.

@SERGEYTIMOFEYOVICH it’s been a while since I have seen this specific video, so I don’t remember what all it touches on, but generally speaking his videos are great and quit informative. Plus suburbs don’t make enough in taxes to pay for their own infrastructure, it’s so bad that they are bankrupting cities and should be greatly reduced.
2
You point out that public transport demands high taxes, but that is precisely the problem with suburbs, they are dragging cities into bankruptcy due to their low density and high infrastructure cost, the only reason they work right now is because they are subsidized by government grants, but cities are reaching a critical point where the government grants to build new developments are not enough to repair old suburbs infrastructure. Not to mention the unsustainable cars, and while your children will have full freedom within your tiny backyard, they will be more imprisoned than ever as to leave the suburb they will need a car, and kids can’t drive.
2
Student housing should be within walking/public transport distance of the school.
2
@RextheRebel suburbs are not sustainable, if you want to live alone you will have to go off grid in the countryside.
2
Are they in high demand, or are they simply the only available option? I could pull out a realtor app right now and find tons of single family homes for sale, but good luck finding a multi family apartment for sale in a decent area, and at a decent price.
2
Have you heard of bulldozers?
2
So can apartments and condos, it’s only that American laws don’t allow for it, and capitalism focuses on profiting not beauty or function. Our cities are not designed well at the moment, but suburbs are not the answer as the infrastructure cost are higher then the taxes they generate, if suburb owners exclusively paid for their infrastructure most probably would not be able to afford to live there.
1
@marcusantimony7535 I’m glad your willing to pay for your extra cost, but I’m afraid most Suburbians probably would either not want to or not be able too, making the cost per a household even higher. If you like that style of living and have disposable income, I would recommend a home off grid in the country.
1
@marcusantimony7535 alright, just get ready sone very high taxes. Or the end of the world though climate change if things don’t change.
1
You wouldn’t like it so much if you had to pay for all those winding boulevards and giant parking lots, suburbs and car dependency are driving cities into bankruptcy due to high infrastructure cost and low density. If they stop getting subsidized by better performing areas then they would fall apart as there would be no money to repair them. There happen to be many humans here not just a few, things have to be designed to accommodate everyone not just you.
1
All American propaganda unfortunately, propaganda and meddling in foreign affairs are the only things America is better at than the rest of the world. Also profiteering
1
Your right, though the way we do cars is flawed, in a properly designed city one should not need a car to get where they need to go everyday, it’s hard to imagine in America because are cities were built for cars instead of people, but it can be done. Instead imagine a system a little bit like the stupid scooters popping up everywhere, except with dedicated parking lots and with cars, when you need a car for a trip you simply pull out your app and claim one that’s convenient, they could fall under the public transport umbrella and be provided at cost saving Americans billions of dollars, and reducing waste and emissions.
1
Must be nice, I drive and hour and a half to work, and at least 20 min to a “decent” store.
1
You didn’t move out of the city, suburb infrastructure are paid for by the city, and it is bringing many cities into bankruptcy due to the low density and high infrastructure maintenance cost. If you want to be alone and never collaborate with other humans then you will have to go off grid and go farm out in the countryside.
1
Just goes to show the quality that capitalism provides overtime, things will keep getting worse until the system collapses because profit is not the most important thing in live, but it’s the only thing capitalism demands.
1
@SERGEYTIMOFEYOVICH how so?
1
@stephentomaszewski8501 when I say children I mean the 16 years you spend unable to drive, not high schoolers. Also you can watch Strong Towns “This Ponzi Scheme Might End Suburban Prosperity” and Not Just Bikes “Suburbia Is Subsidized: Here’s The Math” to get started researching the issue, I assure you it’s not made up, preying on emotions with false facts simply to get what you want is pathetic. If you don’t like cities then the only other sustainable option is country living.
1
@SpruceOaks I shop the property market at least once a week and can say what I have described is accurate at least in the Kansas city area. Tons of expensive inefficient single family homes and almost no multi family, the few multi families for sales are super high due to high demand and very limited supply. Are you saying that America discourages single family home construction? Because that’s pretty much the only new development being built besides luxury apartments. Also suburbs are unsustainable due to high infrastructure cost and low density resulting in low taxes. It’s so bad that suburbs are bankrupting cities.
1
I do believe he is primarily focusing on America. Our zoning is designed for cars and rich guys instead of people.
1
Not racial discrimination, class discrimination, I’m white and can only afford houses in poor areas despite working by butt off. The race war is a distraction, this is worker class vs owner class. We are all on the same side.
1
@kellykramer7629 yes there was rampant racial discrimination in the past, but the class discrimination was just as bad, and is still around today, a much more accurate cause of our current predicament. It’s time to let go of race and come together as people to fight for our basic human rights. Placing the spotlight on racism segregates the working class which is precisely what the owner class wants.
1
@kellykramer7629 indeed so, but like I said we should stop front lining racism as it hides our biggest problem today which is class divide, not racism. We all need to come together and pointing out our differences doesn’t help.

How so?
