Guess it depends where you live. Some developments can only add new rules and increase their condo fees if the residents who live there vote for it.

Now that I think about it, if the condo prices become cheap enough in the surrounding Tallahassee area, I might look into that as my "under $100k" small vacation home. Of course, prices include HoA fees, not just the upfront cost. I haven't checked the prices in that general area yet because I've been avoiding the Southeast USA.

@sharepoint1800 Yea, I checked the area and there is nothing that interests me in that price range. Oh, there are some condos, but the HoA fees were over $700 and they were a bit to close to the ocean for me. Looks like I'm 100% avoiding the southeast. That means my top choices are Arizona, New Mexico, or southern Illionois by the Mississippi river.

@ccryderer1265 I already lived in Montana (Miles City). No thanks. No urge to go back. And yes, I traveled across the whole state of Montana. The east side is rather bland. Manhattan? Where can I get a small vacation home for under $100k in Manhattan? Southern Illinois is still on the list because there are some areas that have beautiful biking routes around the Mississippi and affordable 2 bedroom (1 or 2 bathroom) homes under $100k. Just need to worry about the potential flooding. Heck, I might move to that Southern Illinois area permanently. And unlike Arizona, you'd still experience a full four seasons of weather.
