  1. Overall German cars are quite reliable although there are some weird weak spots. My Uncle owns a 2004 330ci and the entire cooling system is made of plastic vs. flexible rubber hoses and the water pump has a plastic impeller. Also the 3.0 variant of the N52 can suffer the oil pump nut problem where the nuts backs out but he did preventative maintenance by loctiting it in place. Also, BMW makes their V8 motors run at 105C vs. 90C and many owners have a sneaking suspicion it's to make the seals break down faster so the car returns for repair. Everyone who changed over to a 90C thermostat never had oil seal or gasket problems like the ones with a 105C thermostat have.
