I'd still take a Lexus or European equivalent though this car is a very good attempt by Hyundai. The thing is they should stick to making more basic affordable cars because they do that very well and offer a ton of car for the price. Hyundai should focus their efforts in that area of the market.

Gwynne66 Well the LS was a standout car because it was quieter than a Rolls Royce and it's quality is proven even to today where you'll see 20 year old Lexuses still rolling around. The LS made an impact but the first gen Equus did not do what Lexus managed to do.

Gwynne66 AWD isn't necessary even in snowy conditions. Skill and winter tires are. I have a 4MATIC C Class and it's useful a few days out of the year when it snows. It kicks ass in the snow but it's only useful then. I test drove an LS430 and it was the smoothest and quietest car I've driven and the materials felt like they would hold up for a lifetime. In 5 years you'll see the odd Equus on used car lots running about $20k like V12 BMW 7 Series and S Classes because nobody wants them and parts are next to impossible to find for them. I see 20 year old LS400s still on the road. 20 years from now if I see today's Equus' on the road I'll believe they're good cars.

MRDKastel Yeah, Hyundai is better than every car on the market according to their ignorant owner. Just because you can buy a car for $20k that has navi, heated seats, back up camera, power everything and bigger wheels doesn't make it good. Tell me this, why are so many Hyundai owners complaining about premature wear of all the wear items on their cars? Plenty of reports of struts going out early, wheel bearings wearing out early and suspension bushings falling apart? Also, the squeaks and rattles? Hyundai/Kia offer a ton of car for the money but that means they had to cut costs somewhere else and that's starting to show. Don't even begin to tell me a Hyundai is more solid than a German car because that's not true. Open and close the doors on a Hyundai or Kia then on an MB, BMW or Audi and tell me the Hyundai has a better thunk...

Jonathan Gwynne No doubt basic Hyundais will be reliable. There's nothing much on them so there are few potential failure points. It's the newer Hyundais that are offering so much for the price is where I'm concerned how much quality is put into the parts that make the car up. Of course the powertrains will be solid as they are on most cars. It's the other things and again there are plenty of complaints about things prematurely wearing out on those cars. Most people only know how to start a car and put it in drive, they're not observant of noises and quality issues so there must be tons more issue plagued Hyundais out there.
