12:27 that 1-2 shift was spot on. Love just go-kart like this GT3 is yet it's still livable.

Great solid little car. Good build quality, great ride and handling and I like that it doesn't call too much attention to itself with the design. Would be perfect for me because I buy a car for me to enjoy, not show off to others so having a car that flies under the radar suits me well.

This is the one I'd get. It's a manageable amount of power and really all the power you need. Simple V8 and rear wheel drive with all of the styling cues of the 60s and 70s muscle cars.

@tempestsquall5882 It's not simple if it takes 3 or 4 steps to perform a function that could be accomplished in 1 step. VW has always been known for functional interiors in the German car world and they've not only messed up they messed up badly. It's inexcusable to go backwards like that and do remember, Honda did this once with their Civic and ended up going back to regular buttons.

An equivalent Range Rover would be at the end of it's life with multiple warnings on. This Lexus is just getting broken in. There will be some wear and tear components on the suspension that will need replacing at some point but that applies to all vehicles. All major components are bulletproof on this vehicle.

@Metal_Icarus Preference isn't a take on something.

I love the old school characteristics this Toyota gives off however with that being said it wouldn't kill Toyota to put an Aisin 8 speed auto (durable and reliable) and bump the HP/TQ a bit.
29
Nicely trimmed interior with ACTUAL buttons. Great.
27
Weirdly enough I think this car is a step back for the LS. The previous generation felt like an S Class competitor and when I drove it the ride and quietness were amazing. This car seems a tad more sporty but the space is lacking and it looks more upmarket Toyota Avalon versus looking like it's in a class of it's own.
27
Drove one at an autoshow 2 years back. Great all around vehicle. Felt solid, styled nicely and will age well, powertrain was responsive and easy in and out. In a world that's power and tech obsessed I can still appreciate the simpler good all around vehicles.
26
The Crown Vics were great to own and road trip with. Easy to maintain, parts were cheap and it had the space to carry people and their stuff.
22
These things depreciate like a rock so pick up one used. It's actually a great value there as a sporty-ish daily driver.
20
That's the thing with cars like the Civic and Corolla. They're the "safe" way to purchase a car for a decent price but get a decent amount of features and safety along with dependability and cheap maintenance.
19
I love the conservative exterior styling. I like cars that don't attract too much attention and I can enjoy it in peace.
18
A little tip. Wipe down the wiper blades with rubbing alcohol then once they're clean take 303 Aerospace Protectant and coat the blades with a good amount of it. Once dry put the blades back down and there will be no chatter and it will contact the windshield much better.
18
The Camry's 4 cylinder offering is meant to be basic and will compete with the basic Accord trim levels. The XSE model in the Camry has a 301HP V6 which is smooth, simple and reliable.
18
No, he's actually a Go Pro camera that grew arms and legs.
12
I test drove a Sorrento with the V6 and it was great. I can only imagine how amazing this SUV will be.
12
Just change the oil often and keep an eye on the level between changes. Timing chains only go bad on these because they had a tendency to burn oil and ran low on it between changes. That smaller amount of oil ended up running too hot, lost it's lubricating and cooling properties and causes the chain to run hot stretching it.
11
Yep I love doing the door test to see how solid it sounds. While newer Benzes and Audis have solid doors (especially the Q7) nothing beats the old school 80s and older German car doors.
10
BMW has way too many models in their lineup and they're honestly complete hits or complete misses. From a driveability standpoint they're absolutely amazing but it seems as if they're trying to cater to every corner of the marketplace instead of focusing on their best products.
9
Definitely love the styling but this needs a powertrain that has more power. Given that the Mazda CX5 has a really torquey turbo 4 other manufacturers need to follow suit.
8
Great review as always. I get the whole "Gotta pay to play" but it just seems that some of that $83k price tag is simply BMW tax. Same thing applies to Apple products. While it's built well, feels great on the road and capable the price does jump way up from the Japanese competitors. It may be a better performing machine but is it $35k better especially when the Acura MDX Type S will soon be coming out?
7
@DJ_Cue Not necessarily true. A good emissions system and computer tuning can make very powerful motors low on Co2 emissions. In some cases the smaller motor will product more because it has to work so hard to keep the vehicle moving, especially larger ones, and ends up burning more fuel in the process faster. By your mentality we should put a 1 cylinder motor in all vehicles.
7
Looks like it needs a new battery and a programming. That usually solves that Christmas tree of lights.
7
The E38 is by far one of my favorite BMWs. They look amazing, ride/handle well and have just the right amount of power, that being enough to get you in trouble but not a crazy amount of power that just spins the wheels all the time. If I can find me a reasonable LCI 740i M Sport package I'd love to own one.
7
Why does Hyundai keep using that shitty starter from a 2000 Accent? If they want to be taken seriously there's a lot they're going to need to do. There have been turbo engine issues, carbon buildup issues and the interior quality is still lacking. They're a great value but details matter as much as the whole car.
7
Probably one of the best values out there too. Coupe, V8, manual, great handling, nice materials and retro-modern styling.
6
That applies to most luxury brands and models. I'm glad people do buy it brand new because then I can pick up a nice car 3 or 4 years old for a steal of a price. I picked up a loaded 2012 C300 about a year and a half ago for less than half of what it was new. It had full dealer service history and was accident free. Quite a good deal.
6
@azera55555 Did you take into consideration the pollution produced to make those batteries and the stuff within it? What about disposing of them when they fail? Also, the electricity used to charge it was probably produced by fossil fuel or coal.
5
The 7 speed wouldn't make any difference unless you were autobahn cruising. Most cars with 7,8,9 or 10 speeds don't use the higher gears until you've gone past a certain speed. The 7 speed in my MB only goes into 7th until you pass 80 km/h. Too high of a gear at too low of a speed would mean drivetrain shudder.
5
I never use the auto function for the climate in my Benz. It just blows at max speed and blows the air everywhere I don't want it to go. In the summer if I were to use it the air from the AC would be sent to the footwell instead of towards my face. I just set it manually and it modulates the temperature just fine but I set the air to where I want it to go.
5
The first gen Veloster was terrible. Rear beam suspension and wasn't particularly sporty. I think that left a bad taste in people's mouth. The CIvic Type R, Subaru WRX and Golf GTI are still better.
4
@SugarWeasel1227 If I want to adjust the climate control or radio presets (which is easy to do in any sensible car) I should be able to do so on the move. The fact that newer cars are making that harder that's just dumb.
4
Leave it to someone like you to be offended. He meany only $56k because for the amount of power, performance and heritage you get a really good deal at that price. $60k buys you a basic 4 cylinder Audi or Benz and yes it buys you a house in some cases but you took what he said out of context beyond belief.
4
Because it wasn't chocked full with 28 separate computers and electronic gadgets like newer ones have. All this driver assistance tech in new cars and drivers are worse than ever.
4
@ILoveCostcoPizza When will people understand that a small motor might not always be efficient. That little motor has to work so hard to get the car moving that it will burn more fuel than a more powerful engine. Add in 3 more passengers with their stuff and put the AC on. This car might barely move.
3
@zacharyreynolds4303 Me: “I prefer to drive this old Honda”. Other Guy: “What a dumb take man”. Please tell me how a preference is a take? If the OP said something about the car and gave his opinion why and it was outlandish THEN it could be considered a dumb take.
3
They're fully capable of doing that as evidenced in their 80s cars but realized that they can make money 3 times on 1 vehicle. They can lease it to the customer, get it back after 4 years, sell it back as a CPO or to a wholesaler AND sell tons of services on it when it breaks.
3
Great POV review as always. The price for new trucks are staggering. We're talking German midsize SUV levels of pricing. I just hope that they bring out some nice middle of the road trim levels. I can do without the gimmicks, the quilted leather, the chrome and the sparkly paint. A powerful but refined powertrain, the towing package, the FX4 package and a good spray in bed liner will suffice.
3
Hmmm I would go a little lighter on the options. All that matters on a BMW anyway is the M Sport package.
3
What impresses me about older Japanese cars is how well they aged in terms of design. Can't forget the light and tossable nature of them either.
3
Remember when the Trailblazer was a durable and simple SUV with the 4.2 I6 motor (arguably one of GM's best motors)? Yeah I do.
3
It's a great little SUV but needs a tad more power. I feel like it would struggle going up hill with people in it and the AC on.
3
Could be something simple like a worn pulley. I had a very similar sound in my car and I changed the idler pulley and belt and all was fine.
3
Why anyone would buy a Tahoe over this is beyond me. Given how overpriced Tahoes/Yukons are and they do have some unfortunate quirks to them this is the clear cut better choice.
3
The owner looks a bit like Stipe Miocic.
2
If you're going to drive a ton of miles per year then yes, it makes sense to pay more to purchase and maintain the 35d because you'll mitigate the extra cost with fuel savings but it only make sense for those who drive a lot of highway miles per year.
2
It's not a Tesla. It's a raw track car that's more focused on driver engagement and track days. Believe it or not digital gauges do not change how a car drives. If you want a millennial or gen z tech mess there are other options. For skilled drivers who value driving pleasure this is a great car.
2
What annoys me about Krown is that they insist on drilling holes. I ask if they can just undercoat my vehicle and they always give me a hard time regardless of the location. Now I just buy rust proofing and do it by myself. Probably do a better job than these guys as well.
