Yeah but you have to spend $100k and charge it often so it's not really cost effective yet. I could drive a $10k used TDI VW and it will be more cost effective than this Tesla. Electric cars will become good later once the range is higher but the whole no oil change is just a gimmick to fool people into buying these. Also, if millions of these were to sell imagine how stressed power grids would be for the extra demand. Now see how much pollution will be created in order to produce more electricity. This technology will work eventually but not now.

OhFishyFish It's funny how idiots like yourself think that going to extremes makes for intelligent debate. Newsflash, it DOES NOT. What I was trying to say (and clearly said) is that electric cars are good but still need to be more cost effective in addition to it's performance in order to make sense. This is a great start but you have to consider the factors I've mentioned above. At this time an newer or older well maintained TDI vehicle makes more sense.

OhFishyFish No but a TDI doesn't cost nearly that much and will go 500k or more.

Pupenhausen Well that's debatable but the reason why I said that was purely from a financial standpoint and for how long the actual car would be on the road for. I am confident that the VW TDI will still be doing it's thing half a million miles later and 15 years on the road with only regular repairs. I don't think the Tesla will be doing that. With that being said I think it's a step in the right direction for transportation, it's just in it's beta phase still.
