  1. Perfect example of why changing oil regularly is important and to not bother with these "extended drain" intervals some manufacturers state. We have a 15 year old Sentra which got plain old conventional oil changes every 3k miles (whatever oil and filter is on sale) and with 162k miles on it I recently had to do the valve cover/gasket and the top end was spotless with very little wear on the cam lobes.

  2. I always check the oil to make sure it's clean after I get an oil change done anywhere. The owner of this car could have done that or he's not telling the whole story.
