Speaking of a motor swap there was this guy who rented a U Haul GM van and swapped the low mileage 6.0 from that van into his high mileage 6.0 van and put his high mileage motor into the U Haul van. He shampooed the motor and all to make it seem new and returned the U Haul van. They never noticed because they never called him. His high mileage motor ran great but he wanted to extend the life of the vehicle so he did that.

We had an 87 Daytona Shelby. Blew 3 turbos in 70k. Was a fun car in manual though.

Many of my co workers are in their 40s and 50s and divorced. The number one thing they tell me is to NOT get married.

@jessicafilopoulos7403 The 6.0 Vortec is pretty much a bulletproof motor. I think you thought I was referring to a 6.0 Powerstroke from a Ford.

Well I'm going to sub to Aging Wheels now. This guy is a living information book.

The whole "one price policy" really took off later on thankfully. I worked at a Nissan dealership that used the one price policy and had salaried salespeople for 2 years and in my first month sold 12 cars. After some referrals, blowout sales and learning the business I regularly sold between 15-25 cars per month. All major dealerships should move to that business model. That will be the best change the industry had in the past century.

Nice. I had a 2012 Corvette GS with the LS3 which I purchased in early 2019. I sold it in June 2021 for $14k more than what I paid for it. It basically covered my gas costs, maintenance costs, tire costs and insurance plus I took a bit of a profit. Never have I been able to enjoy a car for 2 years and sell it for a profit.

@markmiller4595 Seems like you have a thin skin because you're flipping out at people who are disagreeing with you. You can dislike Hoovie that's fine but people can disagree with your statement too. Realize that you wouldn't be viewing Wizard's videos because if it weren't for Hoovie. Wizard even enjoys having Hoovie around because he got way more confident in front of the camera plus the money due to Hoovie and increased business all around. Also, Hoovie brought many other Kansas based car You Tube channels who are also great.

Yeah I'll stick to paying to drive an exotic car for a weekend or so.

@ES-qe1nh I don't drive a car to impress anyone. I do it for enjoyment and put my money towards vacations and traveling (though not right now) instead of blowing all my money on a car.

I can never understand customers who just have to make excuses and make things so difficult. I work as a Service Advisor at a dealership and if the quote exceeds $500 we have to collect a deposit on at least the parts prior to beginning work. Sometimes we tell them to pay upfront upon signing the quote if the customer seems sketchy. The second I hear "I'll think about it" I know they were planning on pulling a fast one and they usually go away. I really do feel for privately owned shops having to deal with problem customers.

I hope greedy dealerships and buyers alike get completely screwed both on cars and on houses. The bubble will burst and that's when I will step in and get a great deal on something. You got Lexus dealerships marking up their RX350s by $15k which is stupid but even stupider are the people buying them. They'll all learn.

Seems to me the BMW experience is all smoke and mirrors. The cars are brilliant but it stops at the dealership. I work at a GM dealership and we wouldn't even dare take a customer's vehicle out for a drive and if a car being serviced needs to be driven we have specific routes and it is discussed with the customer before hand and put on the work order so the customer sees. We service everything from crappy Cruzes and Sparks to Corvettes and Cadillacs and if GM, with all of it's flaws, can do a good job with that there is NO excuse for a BMW dealership to do so.

Hmmm that picture is of a long block :)

One time a Mercedes dealership screwed up a basic Service A on my friend's E350. The tech not only managed to overfill the motor with oil but also spilled a ton of oil all over the motor and naturally it dripped onto the exhaust manifold. As my friend was driving home the oil level too high light came on and as the motor warmed up it started to smoke everywhere and out the exhaust. Car got towed back to the dealership. The dealership did do over the oil change but told my friend he had to pay for the engine bay shampoo. After some arguing they finally agreed to shampoo the motor to get rid of the burning oil. The thing is the motor burned some of that excessive oil so it ended up fouling his spark plugs and messing up the cats and o2 sensors and on went a 6 month battle between my friend, his insurance, the dealer's insurance, lawyers and that dealership. Complete mess and to top it all off that Service A was $320.

So a slimeball salesperson then. When I worked at Nissan selling cars I never pulled this crap and still pushed 20+ cars out the door per month. For me each customer is worth at least 2 transactions because I can then sell their trade in if we keep it and certify it or better yet the happy customer sends a friend or family member to buy from me. I'm glad dealerships are changing these days with salaried salespeople versus commission and one price policies.

I'm kicking myself right now. I was getting a 2000 Porsche 996 911 Cabriolet in May 2020 for $20k that was traded at a local Porsche dealership. I could have bought that car, driven it for the entire summer, do 1 service on it and sold it this summer for 33% more as you can barely find a 996 for under $30k CAD where I live now. I literally would have made money buying, driving and servicing a car, something known as a depreciating asset. Imagine that.

There used to be this guy going around at auctions pulling spark plug wires or one coil so the car would run poorly. His hope was that it would run through for less money since the bidders would see the vehicle ran like shit and the he'd bid it up enough that everyone else bowed out.

Mistakes can happen. Illustrations on a service manual like Haynes or Mitchell can still be odd to interpret.

Riding a motorcycle through death valley in July. That takes some balls.
