That's why I ended up buying a Hyundai Genesis Ultimate with the 5.0 V8. Burns more fuel and isn't as powerful but NONE of the problems these TT V8s are giving. Parts for the Hyundai are about 50% to 70% less too.

@rsxboss302 Are you a dealership tech? Does warranty shortchange you on labor hours for jobs like replacing a head? I know at Hyundai/Kia they've been shortchanging techs for doing longblock replacements at 4.5 hours per replacement.

That's IF you catch it early enough. Some people turn up the stereo and ignore the check engine light or weird running engine.

Hmmm I was thinking perhaps someone ran one of those stupid burble tunes that mess up engines all the time or an injector got stuck on (common in BMWs with Siemens injectors) and the motor compressed all that gas flowing in.

Is the Tau motor and the Ford Coyote 5.0 the same engine?

I don't know what BMW was thinking when they made this engine. It drinks oil BUT they said you can change the oil once per year or 15k miles. It got so bad BMW themselves told owners to keep a couple bottles of oil in the trunk. That combined with running ridiculously hot and using plastic cooling lines all over no wonder these motors failed so much.

GM Service Advisor here. These motors internally weren't bad but they needed constant maintenance to last long. The cam cover is a common failure and cooling system parts can leak leading to overheating. If you change the oil religiously every 5000 kms, get the cam cover replaced when the issue occurs and constantly monitor the cooling system the motor will last long. Highest mileage one we ever had had 355,000 kms but the owner was meticulous.

Or it could have been a crappy PCV system that sucked in oil and threw it on the intake valves. BMW, MB and worst of all Audi (Any VAG vehicle for that matter) use PCV systems that can suck an excessive amount of oil. It's not uncommon to see oil in the intake manifolds and intake valves.

Regular oil changes will be one of the best things you can do for your car. It can be the cheapest oil that's approved for your engine just as long as you change it regularly. We have a 16 year old Sentra and I recently did the valve cover gasket and when I pulled the cover off the top of the motor was squeaky clean. Cam was barely worn and there was no sludge. I just throw in whatever oil is on sale and use an OEM filter but I make sure to change it regularly.

@ It really is.

@nevinmorgan7112 Need a good warranty administrator too who understands MT and all the labor op codes.

For MB V8 motors the M113 and M273 are my favorite. Simple enough, smooth, powerful and reliable. The M278 as nice as they perform does scare me a tad. PS if the valve covers ever leaked it must be an expensive job to replace.
