How is that Supertech stuff from Wal Mart? I've been using their 5W30 conventional and whatever filter is on sale at the time on our 2008 Sentra for years now. Car seems to run great with it and I make sure to change it every 5000kms. I also did a valve cover gasket recently and the top of the motor was squeaky clean, no deposits. Not sure what the bottom or the pistons look like though. Car has 245,000 kms.

The only way to find out is to run the oil for that long then get it tested by a lab like Blackstone. They will let you know if it has excess metals or if the oil is broken down or in good shape. In all honesty if your car is still running well after 20 years just stick to what you've been doing. It's not like you'll save that much time or money going forward if you run the oil for 10k miles especially when oil is on sale.

Weirdly enough Mercedes dropped Mobil 1 from their dealership network years ago and Chrysler recently switched from Mobil 1 to Pennzoil Platinum 0W40 for their SRT, Hellcat and Demon powered cars/SUVs. Is it because Mobil 1 isn't properly protecting the engine or just a business decision?
