It says a lot about our culture that we make meaningless consumer choices like Windows vs Mac vs Linux into questions of identity. Whatever works for you is what you should use in your daily life; it's as simple as that. Also, I've always wondered whether sudo is pronounced "sudu" or "sudo" (I've heard both).

I don't have any words of wisdom about your keyboard; I just want to say how cool it is that you found a Model M! My Dad had an IBM computer (not an AT) in the mid '80s and we had a keyboard just like that. Awesome channel!

Not only is Mint great for beginners, but you can add whatever window manager on top of it that you want. Following a DT video about "becoming a Mint power user", I installed awesome wm (a tiling window manager for those not aware) over top Cinnamon and used that as my default. It took me out of my comfort zone and required me to acquaint myself with the terminal, which has been very handy to learn for Linux.

It is a huge victory, and it's just common sense. Louis Rossmann is a Youtuber who has been working on this for farm equipment, and I think his efforts have recently met with some success as well.

Mastodon seems overly complicated to me, so I'd appreciate a basic primer on how to use it. The Linux Experiment did one and it was good, but I got a bit lost in the details. Thanks for your videos; you're one of the best Linux channels!

Yeah please do cover parts of the 'old' internet; this was a fun walk on memory lane. I was a '90s teen myself and I miss the days before the more corporate internet that tracks our every move.

Brilliant! Thank you for the lesson.

Ship of Theseus Linux: all the Linux but without the open source, the privacy, or the community-driven involvement. I use Mint and I've rarely if ever had a problem with installation or driver compatibility. But if Mint goes the corporate path I'll have to move to something else.

I love it when people use proprietary stuff like Chromebooks in a way contrary to what was intended. You're exercising your freedom to bust outside of the Microsoft/Apple/ChromeOS tri-opoly, and I appreciate that very much.

Thank goodness that at least so far, these messages (and I've seen them on Daym Drops and several other channels) are so poorly done that they set off the BS detector. Youtube probably could do something about it, but they probably don't care enough, unfortunately.

ABBA is a great choice here; really like their music! I still have an ancient (ca. 2016) iPod Touch but I have never bothered to try mounting it on my Linux system. A major reason is that iTunes is a bloated pain to use and I much prefer using Music On Console - which probably isn't compatible with an iPod at all.

Learning ls before using exa is a bit like learning C++ before moving on to something like Java: you get a sense of the fundamentals before using something that does a lot of the dirty work for you. Java doesn't require a lot of the setup for data structures that C++ does, but having to do that setup in C++ gives you a deeper understanding of them. I don't know if that makes sense at all..

You and I are probably about the same age; I grew up on Super Mario Bros. I've seen many attempts to beat it in interesting ways, but never with Vim controls. Nice job!

Yes, please do an awk video (my phone almost autocorrected that to awkward)! DT and Learn Linux TV have touched on it but awk gets complicated quickly.

@Abandex369 I know that, but I'm talking about the byzantine system regarding instances and which server connects to whom.

I first learned how to write simple programs in the late '90s by reading my graphing calculator's manual and experimentation. Computers and calculators have become so ubiquitous that I suppose companies figure that elaborate manuals are no longer necessary.

I have been using Mint since March 2022 and have never had an issue with it. I highly recommend it, especially to people coming from Windows. Happy Holidays!

Congratulations! I think a lot of people's perceptions about work and life have changed dramatically since the pandemic, and that change has manifested itself in different ways. You and I are about the same age and I think you get to the point where you realize you're not enjoying what you're doing and need a change. I know it'll work out great for you and your family.
