@HenrySomeone We have had 5 Subaru cars in our family over the years, last one in 2016, and none have failed or let us down in the engine and transmission areas. Driving and servicing them as you would any car for about 160 K before trading or selling, all fitted with towbars and trailered all sorts of things including house moving trailers and horse floats. Has a Subaru EA81 engine in my microlight for 16 years, 360 hours, never missed a beat, completely reliable, and still flying today. So, not sure where you general statement of unreliability comes from.

@Beer_Dad1975 They are not 'anecdotes', they are the honest experiences of owners who have looked after their vehicles and driven them well, not of hoons and ravers.

@Beer_Dad1975 All of our Subarus were pre 2010, wouldn't go near the later models with the CVTs, electric handbrakes, stop/start rubbish. Around about the time of the XV they lost their way and thought they knew what customers wanted without asking them. In OZ the Subaru Brumby and Outbacks had legendary status for ruggedness and reliability, and there is quite an established industry there to keep them going, used to get parts from them. Whether driving around the city or up the mountain in locked 4WD to go snow skiing, the cars never let us down, the EA81 engine converted to fuel injection and with electronic ignition never missed a beat, 10,600 feet, not a problem.
