  2. Because the competition of cars on EU market is much stronger than in the USA, especially in the hatchback segment. So in order to compete, you see Honda, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, etc. making different cars for EU market than for the US market. But if I told you how much the european Civic costs, you probably would not want one. A 2.2l diesel with 150hp (which is the most popular version) and some nice equipment (not top of the line) costs more than $42000.
