Not that the US wants to fight for the independence of Taiwan. In fact, they don't care about Taiwan's future. Their main objective is to halt China's rapid rise that can challenge the US hegemony. The only way to achieve their objective, as they did in the middle east or Ukraine, is to cause havoc in that region
