  8. By @trekpac2 I really appreciated President Duterte’s standing up for the Philippines’s independence, to just bending over for the US. The current government has just given in to America, provoking China rather than cooperating, building tons of new bases. The Philippines can never be politically independent if it is controlled by the US military (as Japan, Korea, Germany, etc are). Look at Norway and Sweden which also have given up their sovereignty by letting the US take over the military with its 10 or 20 bases. They are totally in America’s back pocket now. Also, Mr. Duterte’s hardline approach to drugs and crime was a good approach.

Let’s hope the State Department official is talking about trade with Asia. With 313 military bases in Asia, let’s also hope that the US does not feel emboldened and resort to military aggression, if it finds that it can’t compete economically with China. Please do not act like you are helping to champion the UNCLOS, when the US has refused to ratify and do not even recognise the UNCLOS. Asia does not need another secret war like Laos, which still holds the Guinness World record for being the most bombed country by the US on Planet Earth. Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia are still picking up your cluster bombs from 50 years ago. Nobody in Asia wants to be another colony like you did when you betrayed the Philippines, killed over 200,000 Filipinos, and implemented the benevolent assimilation policy to subtly “brainwash” Filipino identity and loyalty. Asia welcomes trade, not war.
