  1. If Putin thinks he can get Ukraine to negotiate a peace without completely destroying the Ukrainian armed forces, he's delusional. The Ukrainians will literally fight to the last Ukrainian and NATO is more than willing to keep them armed and funded.

  2. East of the Dnieper, the extended Bakhmut urban conglomerate (from Kharkov south to Donetsk) is the last area that should be taken. Do Russians forget their own history? During WWII, both German and Soviet armies tried taking that area from each other and each got wrecked. It wasn't until the defenders had to withdraw to avoid complete encirclement that that area was taken.
